Hard Water Stains On Glass

Getting Rid of Hard Water Stains on Glass

Water varies depending on the place.  For example, water supply in the Southern Part of the United States contains more minerals that can ruin your windows and even the paint of your house or worse your car paint.  This kind of water is what we call the hard water.  Such type of water is full of minerals like calcium, magnesium, some metal cations and some compounds such as sulfates and bicarbonates.  When hard water hits on glass, it can leave water spots that so hard to remove.  Hard water can even cause severe damages to your windows if you will not have it removed as soon as possible.

How to clean and remove hard water stains?

Shower doors, vases, windows and kitchen are the most common areas that hard water attacks simple because these are the places and things where we usually use water.  Ordinary stain remover may not work on such a tough issue to deal with so here are some techniques on how to remove those water spots in no time.

  1. Combine 50% water and 50% vinegar.  It would be better if you are going to use a soft water for cleaning, which means the water is made of fewer minerals.
  2. Have a cleaning towel soaked into the mixture then use it for cleaning the hard water stains.  Make sure that the towel you are using is wet all the time.
  3. Have the towel pressed on to the areas with loads of stains.  This will help the vinegar to concentrate in attacking the stains at have it softened.  It will make the removing process easier since the acidity of the vinegar is more focused in removing the stains as you press the towel.
  4. Wipe and press the towel onto the glass.  Do this for several times until all the water stains disappears.  Water stains will be kept softened as you repeat the process.

Most of the process in cleaning hard water stains involves acidic solutions in order to break down the mineral deposits on the glass.  Here are some other tips to get rid of those water spots to gain back the beauty of your windows and glasses.

  1. Use pure white vinegar.  If the water stains are really tough to deal with then set aside the use of water and go for the pure white vinegar alone.  Do the same process as suggested above but use only vinegar.
  2. Use another acidic element and that is lemon juice.  This is like white vinegar.  It might be harder to use since you still need to have it extracted but it works.

Athens - The Anglican Church

By Menios Pakis
At the end of Philhellinon street stands the Anglican Church of St. Paul, built in revived Gothic from 1838 to 1843. This church contains three fine stained-glass windows of two lights. The east window, above the altar, commemorates the victims of the Dilessi murders: the three English travelers and their Italian friend murdered on 21st April 1870 by brigands near the village of Dilessi, on the coast of Boeotia. The windows in the north and south transepts are in memory of General Sir Richard Church.
