Stained Glass Kits

Stained Glass Kits: Perfect for Your Own Piece of Artwork

Creating beautiful objects out of stained glasses have been in existence centuries ago. They are very prominent on churches window and other holy places. Making stained glass artworks can be an enjoyable and fulfilling activity. This can be easily learned by anyone. All it takes is to have stained glass kits containing all the basic materials needed by starters. These kits are readily available in most arts and crafts depot. Stained glass kits have three types namely:

  • Starter Kits: This contains the things that you will need to start working on your stained glass including the basic tools. The usual starter kits have a cutter, pliers, safety glass, pattern shears, solder and soldering iron, assorted stained glass sheets, flux and flux brush. It would be helpful if the kit has instructional video so you will be guided on how to use each tool and glass safely. If you wish to make this as a hobby, it is better to purchase this kit to have all the tools and essential supplies that you will need.

  • Project Kits: As the name implies, this type of kit has no pre-design project. You will be the one to create your own design. This will help you get acquainted with the selection of stained glass available. This kit only includes stained glass sheets, solder, pattern, copper tape and frame.

  • Specialty Kits: This contain specific tool or supply that you need. You can purchase kits such as lead kits, soldering kits, pre-cut glass kits including wire frame and soldering wire or cutter kits. The tools in this kit are of higher quality than those included in the starter kit.

Having these kits will allow you to experiment and come up with your own designs. You will be amazed with awe when you see a kaleidoscope of colors every time light strikes the stained glass you created. Once you get hooked with this hobby and wanted to excel in it, you can probably try attending a workshop being conducted by glass expert to learn new techniques. You may consider learning the technique called angel gilding. This process is described as the suspension of gold into a liquid state until it is transformed again to its primary form and then set down on glass. To apply this technique on stained glass, angel gild kits are needed. The kit is composed of 250 ml of gold, two dispenser bottles and a 50 ml measuring cylinder.

Simple stained glass kits are the most appropriate to start with and see how you will create your first piece of artwork.

How to Use Stained Glass Window Film

By Amy A Thomas
Stained glass window film is often something we think of when we go to church or to grandma's house. It has gotten a bad rap over the last few years for being out dated and downright ugly. It is true that if not used and installed properly, the film will look nasty and tacky. The film can be purchased at just about any hardware or do it yourself craft store. I would like to encourage you to stay away from the really cheap stuff.
